If you’ve ever been to one of those Brazilian steak houses, where circling servers continually put prime cuts of meat in front of you and another delightful bite is always just a head nod away, you have some sense of what it’s like to be a bass during the shad spawn. The spawn congregates enormous masses of the bass’ favorite entrée in predictable areas, and the shad, instinctually locked into procreation, are as vulnerable as they’ll every be.

Congratulations to 21-year-old Tessa Johnson, from Florence, Alabama, who was chosen as the first finalist in the BOOYAH Truck Giveaway at the 2014 Bassmaster Classic in Birmingham, Alabama. Tessa attends the University of North Alabama, where she is an Alpha Gamma Delta. She also currently works at the law office of Randy Winborn and at Elgin Elite Tumble and Cheer. “I am still mind boggled and blown away by the fact that my name was chosen to receive a key in this contest,” she says.
